Apologies for the delay. Huge electricity robbing thunderstorms in Kansas last night. Anyway…
Gabe gets the leather dash, MiniCarParts.net has a new contest (win $1500 worth of prizes from them!), and MINI introduces new bonnet stripes.
Almost fired up the BlackRoofRadio tonight. We spend this episode discussing the GP delivery program. Click the link, read the comments and play along!

You know, I can’t help but think that this leather dash business was somehow influenced by MINI.ca’s “Dominate Winter” campaign. Am I wrong Gabe? 🙂
Seriously, I just can’t get my head around a leather dash. What’s next? JCW shag carpet?
Ha ha!
Well, thanks for the kind words guys. I’m just happy to contribute whatever I can to the MINI community, even if by just my smart-ass opinion.
Nobody’s taken me up on the bridge deed yet. C’mon! A free trip to New York! Oh well. Just no pleasing some people.
Anyway, I left you guys a voicemail, so watch out.
Great show! You guys rock.
Oh, and congrats on the leather dash, Gabe. I LOVE it!
Have to say, if I could, despite the price, I’d totally go to CA. Sounds exciting and like a great MINI experience!
Can I have the MINI Takes the States Route e-mailed to me? The link says that my popup blocker blocked it but I don’t have a popup blocker…
I think you’re right. MINI does know what it’s target demographic is and that’s exactly why the US pricing for the GP is lower than what most expectations were. It’s like you said, this car is a steal for the price.
Before I go further (and not wanting to turn this into another “MotoringFile MINI USA’s Exclusive GP Delivery Program” debate), I want to say I think the delivery program is an AWESOME deal and would love to go.
But, I still think it will be interesting to see how many folks embrace this event because of the money issue. And when I say “money” I’m not referring to whether folks can afford it or not, but whether they can justify the $2K to their non-enthusiast spouses (are you feeling my pain yet). Then again, IF you are getting a GP, to even participate in this program, I’m sure your spouse (if applicable) would be on board with the event. Will they fill the slots? Of course and then some.
Will everybody be happy about the event? Maybe not. Judging from some of the reactions over at MF, I can see how MINI might have slightly missed some of its target. Granted, that was a news release without a proper PR spin to up-sell it. PLUS, maybe those folks that are upset AREN’T the GP target. I’m pretty sure most of those complaining about the event aren’t even getting GPs.
There are folks out there saying that this is a PR event for MINI and MINI should pay for it. Believe me, they are. There are tons of hidden costs involved with planning and executing an event such as this. The fact that they are letting a few lucky individuals participate in an event as great as this for ONLY $2K is astonishing. Get over it.
Anyway, great show guys – as usual. Keep up the good work.
For those that want to see photos of the leather dash, the review is now up at MotoringFile.
Great point… Dealers selling over MSRP should be avoided!
I see that Saturn’s (Sky) “no hagel pricing” is coming under fire.

This is a great way to turn off loyal customers (period).
Just my thoughts,
