In some ways demonstrating why the GTI’s DSG is so superior as well as showing why the automatic may not be the best choice for the MINI owning control freaks out there.”

I had a loaner MCSa while my MCS was in for repair.
There is no way you can compare performance between the two, granted the MCSa is one of the friskier automatics I have driven.
Where they do compare is in the feeling of fun you get when driving a MINI.
So, if you have to drive an auto the MCSa is not a bad choice.
